Grain is a new property development company born out of St. Albans. Their goal is to create brilliantly designed spaces for the community, using natural and sustainable methods. They came to me in need of a visual identity for the brand.

I wanted the brand to feel stylish and sophisticated, but with an element of playfulness. The visual motif of a floor plan is used across Grain’s content, a playful nod back to the industry Grain is in. It’s where every great building or space starts and it represents the endless possibilities a space can have.

The abstraction of the shape creates a tool to frame typography, images and layouts.

Logo

The logo mark was born from the imagery of a floorplan, a synonymous visual motif in property.

The word mark uses Ambit, regular. A typeface created by CoType Foundry, the characters have organic, rounded features which nod to the brands ambitions to use natural materials where possible and sustainable planet-friendly methods.

Brand Mark

The brand mark can be used as a framing device when abstracted to a simple shape. It’s form can expand and contract to fill the space around it.
